WHEREAS, after careful. consideration <br />of the services rendered by said road and the traffic demands of- <br />said county, it is deemed necessary that said road be improved <br />in order to better serve the interests of the people of this county. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, and <br />the Board of County Commissioners hereby approved and request that. <br />the State Highway Commission make the following improvements in <br />the above described road: Paved <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker seconded the motion and upon a <br />vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Hal L. Hancock moved that the statement of Tri- <br />County Tractor Company, Inc., for attachments for the County's Ford Tractor <br />be approved for payment. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker seconded the motion <br />and upon a vote it was unanimously- adopted. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner William H. Cooper, seconded by <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, it was unanimously resolved to endorse the <br />Industrial Revenue Bond proposal which will be submitted to the people at the <br />next election and to urge the approval of such proposition by the people of Lee <br />County. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker announced the. schedule of the Bicentenn- <br />ial Programs which had been presented to him by the'Lee'County Bicentennial <br />Committee. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper reported on the condition of the <br />vehicles being operated by the Ambulance Service. Upon motion of.Commissioner <br />Cooper, duly seconded by Conrrnissioner Franklin D. Wicker, which motion was <br />unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED to authorize Commissioner Cooper and <br />Finance'Officer, Beatrice Fields, to apply for a grant for matching funds to pur- <br />chase an additional ambulance unit. <br />Commissioner Hal L. Hancock brought up for discussion, the <br />water tank for fire protection at the Clawson L. Williams Industrial Park. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker reported that the local chapter of <br />Alcoholic Anonymous had made a request for funds to pave a portion of the lot <br />belonging to the Episcopal Church. The request was denied because the County <br />did not have authority to use public funds to improve private property. <br />Mr. E. M. Underwood, Jr., presented an amended hospital audit <br />to each member of the Board. , The previous audit had been amended to reflect <br />an audit of the Medicare account. <br />Mr. Kenneth Brinson,. Superintendent, Mr. Ernest Atkinson, <br />Assistant Superintendent, and Dr. Cade Covington, Chairman of the Sanford- <br />Lee.County Board of Education, appeared before the Board, accompanied by <br />Mr. Ray Morgan of Buffalo and Morgan, Engineers, and Mr. Tom Hayes of <br />Hayes, Howell & Associates, Architects. Mr. Brinson reviewed the bids <br />received and requested the Board make available funds in'order to complete <br />the project.' The Board of Education also requested that additional funds be <br />made available to allow for other improvements that they desired. After <br />receiving assurances that the projects as bid would produce.schools.that were <br />fully usable, the Board declined to make additional funds available.' Commiss- <br />ioner John E. Dotterer moved that the Board of Commissioners go on record as <br />advising the Sanford-Lee County Board *of Education that it will make available <br />f <br />
