cPiC)I�- I U LEE COUNTY .k",�v Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow RESOLUTION BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS SUPPORTING CENTRAL CAROLINA COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES REQUEST TO HOLD A BOND REFERENDUM DURING THE FALL 2014 GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, the Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) Board of Trustees passed a Resolution on April 24, 2013 requesting and petitioning the Lee County Board of Commissioners to provide necessary funds for the purpose of paying the costs of CCCC facilities; and, WHEREAS, the CCCC Board of Trustees has determined that in order to maintain adequate facilities for the proper operation and management of the Lee County Campus of the College it is necessary to acquire, construct, renovate, expand and improve facilities in Lee County; and, WHEREAS, the CCCC Board of Trustees has listed the construction of a new Health Science Building, expansion and renovation of the Veterinary Medical Technology facility, expansion and renovation of the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, repair and renovation of the Sanford Emergency Services Training Center, and the Renovation of the proposed Small Business Incubator on Steele Street as priorities (Attachment A); and, WHEREAS, the estimated aggregate cost of these projects is approximately $23 million dollars which would require the County to take the necessary steps to issue bonds to pay for the cost of the projects; and, WHEREAS, the County Commissioners currently have a policy that would require the issuance of all new debt for school facilities to be decided by the vote of the people of Lee County, especially when the full faith and credit of the taxpayers will be pledged to repay said debt. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners supports the Central Carolina Community College Board of Trustees efforts to seek support of these projects from the citizens of Lee County by beginning the process and following the attached calendar (Attachment B) that will allow a bond referendum on these projects in the Fall of 2014. AND, FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners instructs County staff to begin work with the County's Bond Counsel, Womble Carlisle, to bring all necessary resolutions, applications and public hearings before the County Commissioners that will allow the County to further consider holding this bond referendum.
