cPiC)I�- I U <br />LEE COUNTY <br />.k",�v <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS SUPPORTING CENTRAL <br />CAROLINA COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES REQUEST TO HOLD A BOND <br />REFERENDUM DURING THE FALL 2014 GENERAL ELECTION <br />WHEREAS, the Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) Board of Trustees passed a Resolution <br />on April 24, 2013 requesting and petitioning the Lee County Board of Commissioners to provide <br />necessary funds for the purpose of paying the costs of CCCC facilities; and, <br />WHEREAS, the CCCC Board of Trustees has determined that in order to maintain adequate facilities <br />for the proper operation and management of the Lee County Campus of the College it is necessary to <br />acquire, construct, renovate, expand and improve facilities in Lee County; and, <br />WHEREAS, the CCCC Board of Trustees has listed the construction of a new Health Science Building, <br />expansion and renovation of the Veterinary Medical Technology facility, expansion and renovation of <br />the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, repair and renovation of the Sanford Emergency Services Training <br />Center, and the Renovation of the proposed Small Business Incubator on Steele Street as priorities <br />(Attachment A); and, <br />WHEREAS, the estimated aggregate cost of these projects is approximately $23 million dollars which <br />would require the County to take the necessary steps to issue bonds to pay for the cost of the projects; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the County Commissioners currently have a policy that would require the issuance of all <br />new debt for school facilities to be decided by the vote of the people of Lee County, especially when the <br />full faith and credit of the taxpayers will be pledged to repay said debt. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners supports the <br />Central Carolina Community College Board of Trustees efforts to seek support of these projects from <br />the citizens of Lee County by beginning the process and following the attached calendar (Attachment <br />B) that will allow a bond referendum on these projects in the Fall of 2014. <br />AND, FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners instructs County staff to begin <br />work with the County's Bond Counsel, Womble Carlisle, to bring all necessary resolutions, applications <br />and public hearings before the County Commissioners that will allow the County to further consider <br />holding this bond referendum. <br />Adopted this 21st day of April 2014. <br />Charles T.
