BK 00026 PG
Lee County Capital Projects
Central Carolina Community College
Priority 1
New Construction: Health Science Building
Details:
• Approximately 40,000 square feet building for workforce training programs
• Programs offered at the Center include Literacy and GED programming, Center for Creative Retirement,
Occupation extension and would allow for the expansion of the following health careers: Certified
Nursing Assistant, Medical Assisting, Optometric Technician, Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technology,
Associates Degree Nursing, and Sleep disorder training.
• The Center would also house industrial training, WIA administrative services, and the Joblink Center.
Justification:
• The current employment demand for health career graduates is extremely high.
• The Center would reduce the need for leased space (Joblink).
Total projected cost: $9 million
Priority 2
Expansion and Renovation: Veterinary Medical Technology
Details:
• The Veterinary Medical Technology Program (VMT) was established in 1965. The VMT program has
been one of the most successful in college history.
• This project involves the renovation of 4,075 square feet of space and the addition of 12,934 square feet
of space to meet the requirements by the accreditation agency.
Justification:
• The most recent accreditation report by the AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and
Activities cited the current laboratory/animal holding facility (built in 1978) as the area within the
program that most needed improvement.
• The program has averaged 445 applicants during the past three years and 64 students are accepted into
this competitive program. The current facility will not allow for more students to be accepted.
• The job outlook for students in this program is growing much faster than other programs. The median pay
for graduates is $14.28 per hour.
Total projected cost: $5 million
Priority 3
Expansion and Renovation: Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center
Details:
The Civic Center, completed in 1991, has a mission to provide event facilities that professionally
represent the citizens of Lee County and Central Carolina Community College by providing a well -
managed and maintained center and assuring clean, safe facilities and set -up support for clients.
The current building consists of approximately 36,000 square feet of space.
This project would require renovations and the addition of approximately 14,500 square feet.
CENTRAL
CARCA INA
