I. <br />Information <br />Meeting Date: September 21, 2009 -Action Item <br />XX Consent Agenda <br /> <br />SUBJECT: ARRA New Beginnings Contract - Funding in Collaboration with Johnston-Lee- <br />Harnett Community Action, Inc. <br />DEPARTMENT: Lee County Senior Services <br />CONTACT PERSON: Debbie Davidson <br />REQUEST: Approve Funding and Memorandum of Understanding <br />SUMMARY: Lee County Senior Services staff was offered the opportunity to apply for ARRA <br />Stimulus funding through the Office of Economic Opportunity New Beginnings Program in collaboration with <br />Johnston-Lee- Harnett Community Action, Inc. <br />Lee County Senior Services has been offered a total of $40,000 for this program. The funds are $18,000 to <br />enhance the nutrition program through the employment of a driver to pick up and deliver meals to <br />homebound older adults in Lee County currently on a waiting list as volunteers are unavailable in these <br />areas. An additional $20,000 has been awarded to cover the cost of 200 food boxes at $100 each to be <br />delivered during the holiday season to economically disadvantaged older adults in Lee County, and $2,000 <br />to pay an instructor to teach computer classes to assist older adults in up-dating skills to re-enter the work <br />force due to the economic recession. <br />No local matching funds are required to receive these funds. <br />BUDGET IMPACT: N/A <br />ATTACHMENT(S): 1) Letter from Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action <br />2) Lee County's Funding Proposal <br />PUBLIC HEARING: No <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION: N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve application for ARRA New Beginnings Contract as presented <br />iii: <br />
