53
•
All.-Stars
Continued from Page 1 B
better."
And the pitching and
defense was solid through-
out as well. Lee County
suffered but one moment
- OK, maybe three - of
trepidation, rallying three
times before prevailing to
beat Rocky Mount 9-7 in
the semifinals.
But that was it, and it
certainly wasn't enough to
slow Lee County down.
"Even in the close game,
Rocky Mount had a really
good pitcher going, and
we still scored nine runs,"
Grant said.
The teams' second
meeting was a lot different.
Seth Caddell ripped a two-
run double and Chrism-
pher Grant drove in a run
with a sacrifice, and after
just one inning, Lee County
was already ahead 3-0.
fhe All-Stars broke the
game open in the second
inning, getting an R13I
double from Tyler Glenn,
nut-scoring singles from
Nathan Holt and Noah
Terhune, another RBI
from Grant and a two-run
double from Justin Bethea
to make it 9-0.
In the fourth inning,
Terhune led off with it It iple
and was plated byColyn
Fowlet's pinch-hit RBI
single, ending the game
by the 10-run mercy rule
- the third such win for
Lee County at the tourna-
ment.
Holt finished with three
hits while Glenn,Terhune
and Bethea added two hits
apiece. Terhune hurled
three effective itmings to
earn the win before Seth
Caddell pitched a scoreless
fourth.
Scott Grant said that all
of the players will move
into Lee County's 11-12-
year-old division next
season, but hopes the first
10-U state ch.unpions
since 1989 have built a
new foundation for youth
baseball in Lee County.
" I hope it will attract
more kids to come out and
be a part of Lee County
baseball;' Grant said. "It's
great for the kids to gener-
ate publicity for winning,
and maybe more kids will
get involved:"
u
