' ,r~n <br /> <br />0 Deep River Fire Department Station 4 <br />Deep River Fire Department has made great strides in the depanmenCS response time and <br />service to the community. The department has purchased land for a new sub-station. The <br />plans for the sub-station have been delayed until funding improves or other means of <br />funding are secured. Their budget request increased a mere $115. In years past this would <br />have been significant. Unfortunately, like many other district the department's collection <br />rate dropped 1.5% along with an $8.7 million loss in the tax base. The result would be a <br />change in tax rate from $0.100 to $0.104. The Fire Advisory Board is recommending the <br />funding as requested- <br />Cape Fear Fire Department Station 5 <br />The budget request from Cape Fear shows no increase in funding over the past year. 7 he <br />district has lost $33 million in its tax base from last year. The collection rate decreased <br />2% to 94%_ The department's sub-station is under construction with a projected <br />completion of mid summer 2009. With the unknown cost of bringing the sub-station on- <br />line, the department did not feel it could afford to reduce funding, but they felt With <br />holding their budget flat they could continue to move forward on a solid financial <br />footing. the Fire Advisory Board recommends the fu]] funding for Cape Fear Fire <br />Department. 'I he current tax rate is $0.076. Even with the loss of tax base and collection <br />the projected rate would be $0.083. <br />Northview Fire Department Station 6 <br />The budget request from Northview Fire Department shows a decrease of $1,378 in <br />funding over the current year. The district continues to enjoy growth in its tax base <br />primarily due to the industrial park. The projected growth is $13.9 million in the tax base. <br />The Fire Advisory Board recommends the funding of Northview Fire Department as <br />requested. <br />Lemon Springs Fire Department Station 7 <br />Lemon Springs Fire Department began operation of their new sub-station last fall. The <br />department recently completed its ISO rating. The department worked very hard to <br />prepare for the inspections. All their hard work paid off as the department was recently <br />notified that they improved their ratings from a PC7/9 to a PC6/9. This improvement will <br />result in significant savings on insurance premiums by homeowners and businesses. Even <br />with the cost of operating a sub-station the department reduced their funding request by <br />$2,640. The district unfortunately saw $14.9 million loss in its tax base. The district is <br />0 one of the largest districts in the county <br />
