Training <br />076 <br />To serve Lee County to the best of our ability, I am pleased to report that we have completed <br />• the following training. Lee County Forest Ranger, Mark Luellen, Assistant Lee County <br />Forest Ranger, Sam Buchanan, and Forest Fire Equipment Operator, Robert Thomas, have <br />received fire line refresher training. Luellen and Buchanan have received pesticide license <br />training credits in the area of forest pest control. Luellen and Thomas have also received <br />training on managing multiple generations in the work place and on railroad crossing safety. <br />Luellen has also received additional training on bark beetles, insect and disease issues, forest <br />fertilization, and hardwood management. Thomas has also served as an instructor and coach <br />to several of our Division's newer Forest Fire Equipment Operators. Buchanan also served as <br />a coach to another employee while serving as an engine boss on the Evans Road fire. <br />Disaster Response <br />This past year, the Evans Road fire in eastern North Carolina required a lot of work from the <br />NC Division of Forest Resources. Lee County Forest Ranger, Mark Luellen, worked as a <br />safety officer on this fire from July 2nd to 1P, 2008. Forest Fire Equipment Operator, Robert <br />Thomas, served as a Forest Fire Equipment Operator on the Evans Road Fire from June 14'h <br />to 25`h, 2008. Assistant County Ranger, Sam Buchanan, served as an engine boss on this fire <br />from June 25th to July 6'h, 2008 and as a division supervisor from July 22nd to August 2"d, <br />2008. <br />Conclusion <br />I would like to say that we greatly appreciate the interest and support of the Lee County <br />Commissioners.
