B. <br />XX Information <br />Meeting Date: May 4, 2009 XX Action Item <br />- Consent Agenda <br />It0-J <br />SUBJECT: Fiscal Year 2009-10 Budget <br />DEPARTMENT: Administration/Finance <br />CONTACT PERSON: John Crumpton/Lisa Minter <br />REQUEST: Accept County Manager's/Budget Officer's Recommended FY 2009-10 <br />Budget. <br />SUMMARY: NC General Statute 159-7 requires the County Manager/Budget Officer on <br />an annual basis to deliver a balanced budget to the County Commissioners <br />for their review. The annual budget is the proposed plan for collecting and <br />spending money for specified programs, functions, activities, or objectives <br />for the upcoming fiscal year. The Board of County Commissioners reviews <br />the budget and enacts it into law by adopting the annual budget ordinance. <br />The Budget Calendar has the budget adoption scheduled for June 1, 2009. <br />BUDGET IMPACT: <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />PUBLIC HEARING: <br />Dr. Jeff Moss from the Lee County Schools and Dr. Bud Merchant from <br />Central Carolina Community College will also be present to discuss <br />their budget requests. <br />Recommended budget is balanced using the existing .75 cents per $100 of <br />property valuation tax rate, per the instructions of the Commissioners. <br />Budget documents will be delivered to Commissioners on April 30 or May 1 <br />County Commissioners need to formally set a public hearing date and time. <br />The Budget Calendar scheduled the public hearing for May 18 at 6:00 pm. <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION: NA <br />RECOMMENDATION: (1) Accept County Manager's Recommended FY 2009-10 Budget. (2) Set <br />public hearing on Recommended Budget. (3) Consider scheduling budget <br />workshops to review budget in detail (Budget Calendar calls for a work <br />session on Monday May 11, time to be determined). <br />
