Page I OF I
GIG
• Gayneii Lee
From: John Crumpton
Sent: Monday, February 23, 2009 1:45 PM
To: Gayneh Lee
Subject: FW. Courhouse Advisory Committee
Need to add to the courthouse item
John A. Crumpton
County Manager
Lee County
PO Box 1968
Sanford, NC 27331-1968
(919) 718-4605
From: Rick Hager [mailto:rickhager@alltel.net]
Sent: Monday, February 23, 2009 12:07 PM
To: John Crumpton
Subject: Courhouse Advisory Committee
John'
I have received a copy of the letters to you from Chief District Court Judge Corbett and District Attorney Doyle and
• felt like I needed to respond to you in some way about these developments.
First, with respect to the DA's office, I contacted Mike Beam, the Senior Assistant DA in Lee County, and told him
of the Commissioner's action in creating the committee and asking him to find out from Ms. Doyle whom she
wished to appoint to the committee- Mr Beam subsequently told me that he would be the DA's appointee to the
committee- Although he injured himself and was unable to attend either of our first two meetings, the DA's office
sent representatives to these meetings and I subsequently spoke personally to Mr Beam by telephone to further
describe the committee's actions at our February meeting. Therefore, I don't understand the reason for Ms.
Doyle's letter.
As for Judge Corbett, I personally informed him of the creation of this committee and the fact that Judge Jim Love
Jr. was a member of the committee. It was the feeling of the Lee Co. Bar that Judge Love could ably represent
the interest of the judges and that he should be appointed to the committee because he was the only judge who
resides in Lee County and maintains an office at the courthouse. As I have personally told Judge Corbett, this
was in no way intended to "cut him" out of the process and, perhaps, in hindsight, it would have been better to let
him appoint a representative to this committee including himself.
I personally have no problem with Judge Corbett serving on this committee in place of Judge Love, of Ms. Doyles
serving on this committee in the place of Mr. Beam and of Judge Lanier being appointed to this committee In fact
if that will lend more credibility to the work of the committee in the eyes of the Commissioners, I'm all for it
I think it is unfortunate that there seems to be such a communication problem between the judges and between
the DA and her staff in Sanford, but I want to resolve the matter so the work of the committee can move forward
Rick
0
