e • Lee commissioners seek fire advisory board applicants By GORDON ANDERSON an Berson@sanfordheraltl.com SANFORD - Some members of the Lee County Board of Commis- sioners were disappointed at Mond'ay's meeting that only two people in the community had applied to be members of the coun- ty's fire advisory board. The commissioners on Monday were set to appoint a replacement for Larry "Doc" Oldham, who had served on the fire advisory board but was elected in November to the Board of Commissioners. But Republican Commis- sioner Linda Shook said she would have liked to have seen more than two applicants for the position, leading the board to hold off on selecting a replace- ment for Oldham until the board's meeting on Feb. 2. The board, which acts as a liaison between the volunteer fire departments in the county and the board of commissioners, consists of seven members - one from the county Fire Chiefs'Associatlon, one from the countyFire- fighters' Association, one from the board of commis- sioners, two from business and industry, and two from the genera] public. . Oldham was appointed to the board as a member of the general public but his election to the board of commissioners in Novem- ber means he cant con- tinue to serve in that role. Shook is the board's com- missioner representative. Shook lamented the fact that only two people in the communitywere interested in serving. "The two applications we got are from people we think would do a great job;" she said.
