0 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />TO: Lee County Board of Commissioners <br />FROM: Gaynell Lee, Clerk to the Boar <br />REF: Purple Heart County <br />DATE: March 10, 2014 <br />I have been contacted by Mr. Ronald Wade who is a member of the "Military Order of the Purple Heart", <br />Chapter 634, based out of Mecklenburg County in reference to Lee County becoming a "Purple Heart <br />County ". They are a unique organization only because, to become a member, you must have received <br />the Purple Heart medal during war at the hands of the enemy. The organization has been chartered by <br />Congress and currently has about 150 members which meets monthly for business and fellowship <br />meetings. The following counties have approved Proclamations recognizing their County as a "Purple <br />Heart County in the State of North Carolina ": <br />Gaston County <br />Lincoln County <br />Cleveland County <br />Cabarrus County <br />Mecklenburg County <br />Rowan County <br />Stanly County <br />Craven County <br />Carteret County <br />Watauga County <br />Union County <br />Henderson County <br />This year, North Carolina became the 4th state in the Nation to become a "Purple Heart State ", <br />Charlotte Motor Speedway became the 1St Speedway in the Nation to become a "Purple Heart <br />Speedway ", and Claremont Regional Medical Center (Gaston County) became the 1St hospital in the <br />Nation to become a "Purple Heart Hospital'. <br />By adopting a Proclamation, Lee County would publically acknowledge appreciation to all Veterans <br />
