031 <br />LEE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION <br />COMMISSION MEETING <br />MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2013 <br />NOTES FROM THE MEETING <br />The Lee County Parks and Recreation Commission met Monday, October 28, 2013, at <br />5:30 p.m. in the Commissioner's Room at the Lee County Government Center. <br />Members present were Harry Stryffeler, Co- Chair, James Emerson, Edgar Underwood, <br />Commissioners Ricky Frazier and Kirk Smith, and Councilman Poly Cohen. <br />Also present were John Payne, Parks and Recreation Director and Debbie Carroll, <br />Secretary. <br />Absent members were Rhea Monti, Cameron Sharpe, Nicole Ingram, and Chairman Mark <br />Kline. <br />Guest was Billy Cox. <br />There was no quorum for the meeting. <br />Members stayed for some discussions. <br />Mr. Payne discussed with members tabulations of the police report Mr. Cox had <br />presented at the August 2013 Parks and Recreation meeting. After inspection, the report <br />had been broken down into groups by calls and types, with the highest number being the <br />total of traffic stops and previous years' break -ins. <br />Members asked John about the recent robbery at San-Lee Park. Lee Co. Sheriff's Dept. <br />recommended that the park stay closed this past Friday until they could search the area <br />and reopen Saturday. John commended how well staff handled the public within the park <br />by getting them inside buildings and securing the area. <br />Mr. Payne said he was having "No Concealed Handguns" signs removed from Kiwanis <br />Park after receiving a call from a concerned citizen. He said Wake Co. was in a legal <br />matter with weapons signage at the present time. The only ones that will remain up for <br />the time being will be the ones at buildings, such as the gyms. <br />Minutes from the August meeting would need to be approved by the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission for Mr. Payne to present to the Board of Commissioners.
