Angel, who spoke on the needs for improvement s <br />in a subdivision street off of Secondary Road 1335; <br />(e) Mrs. Delphia Beamon, who spoke on the needs for improve- <br />ments on a subdivision street off of N. C. 42; <br />(f) Mr. Charles Chalmers, who spoke on the need for addition <br />of the remainder of the streets in Brookhaven Subdivision. Mr. Chalmers was <br />advised to file a petition. <br />(g) Mr. John Byrd, who asked that Secondary Road 1307 be paved. <br />The Chairman asked for any other person who desired to discuss <br />road matters to step forward and no one did. The Chairman declared the public <br />hearing to be concluded and the Board would proceed with the business at hand. <br />Commissioner Dotterer requested the traffic lights on state roads in Sanford be <br />synchronized, particularly the ones on Carthage Street. Commissioner Gordon <br />A. Wicker moved the adoption of the following resolution with re_spectto improve- <br />ments on Secondary Road 1307: <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners <br />of the County of Lee, has investigated the condition of the <br />above described road which is now a part of the system or <br />roads maintained by the State Highway Commission, and which <br />is indicated in red on the attached map; and <br />WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the ser- <br />vices rendered by said road.and the traffic demands of said <br />county, it is deemed necessary that said road be improved <br />in order to better serve the interests of the people of this. <br />county. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, and the <br />Board of County Commissioners hereby approve and <br />request that the State Highway Commission make the follow- <br />ing improvements in the above described road: Paved <br />Commissioner John E. Dotterer seconded the motion and upon a vote <br />it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner John E. Dotterer moved that the following resolution <br />pertaining to the rural secondary road improvements in Lee County be adopted; <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation allocated bond funds of $88, 933. 00 are <br />available and the anticipated July 1978 allocation of <br />$69,153. 00 will become available in mid-summer, a <br />total of $158, 086. 00 for rural secondary road improve- <br />ments in Lee County for the forthcoming construction <br />season and a public hearing was held on February 21, <br />1978, in the Lee County Office Building on expenditures of <br />said funds: <br />WHEREAS, it is proposed to retain 10% of the total <br />proposed allocation or $15, 808. 60 for small projects that <br />may come up during the year such as road additions, proper- <br />ty owner participation projects, volunteer fire department and <br />rescue squad drives, project overruns, etc. <br />
