Bert Smith appeared before the Board, representing a <br />group from Lee County near the.town of Cameron and requesting assistance for <br />the establishment of a fire district in that area since they had been advised the <br />Cameron Fire Department would no longer serve their area without some <br />financial assistance, Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker joined the meeting during <br />this discussion and participated in-the further deliberations of the Board. No <br />formal action was taken by the Board on this request, <br />Mr. Reid Craig appeared before the Board on behalf of Eagle <br />Squadron One, Chapter Seven, Inc., and requested permission to have the trophies <br />won by this public service organization displayed by the new library or in the <br />County Courthouse. Commissioner John E. Dotterer moved and Commissioner <br />Franklin D. Wicker seconded that the Board accept the trophies and display them <br />at a suitable place either at the Courthouse or the Railroad House, and at such <br />time as they are removed from public display they be returned to the Squadron. <br />Upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Board next considered and opened the bids received for the <br />furniture and equipment for the new Library. The bids were tabulated and a copy <br />of same are attached to these minutes as an exhibit and made a part hereof. The bids were referred to the Architect for his consider- <br />ation and recommendation, <br />Mr, Joe Edwards, Chairman of the Lee County Parks and Recreation <br />Commission, appeared before the Board and reviewed the Budget Request on behalf <br />of his department for the fiscal year 1978-79. <br />Mr. Douglas Wilkinson, Mr, Stacy Budd and President J. F. Hock- <br />aday and Mr. Elbert Price, appeared before the Board on behalf of the Central <br />Carolina Technical Institute and presented the Budget Request for that institution. <br />Chairman William H. Cooper appointed Commissioner John E. <br />Dotterer and Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne and County Finance Officer Mrs, <br />Beatrice Fields as a committee to prepare a preliminary budget for consideration <br />by the Board. <br />Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne made a motion that the Lee County <br />Youth Commission and the Lee County Personnel Board meet together to consider <br />the applications for the position of Youth Services Coordinator and to recommend <br />three persons for consideration by the Board of Commissioners. The motion was <br />seconded by Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker and upon a vote, it was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />A letter from the Hospital Board of Trustees requesting that Revenue <br />Sharing funds be set aside for the hospital was read to the Board. <br />A letter from Mr. Foye of the Superintendent's office of the Lee <br />County Board of Education, was read to the Board asking that they participate in <br />the Teachers Appreciation Day, May 23, 1978. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne <br />moved that a resolution designating May 23, 1978, as Teachers Appreciation <br />Day be adopted and the Chairman be authorized to read and present such resolution <br />at the ceremonies held on that day. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded <br />the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. A copy of the Resolution is <br />attached hereto and made a part hereof. <br />
