Nielsen <br />be appointed to the Personnel Committee and to the County Board of Social Services, . <br />to serve the remainder of the terms of the County Commissioner appointees on <br />those Boards. Commissioner Jack Funderburke moved that Commissioner Lila P. <br />Nielsen be appointed to the Personnel Committee and to the County Board of Social <br />Services, to fill the vacancy created by the expiration of the term of the County <br />Commissioners who formerly served. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne moved that the County adopt the follow- <br />ing retirement policy and that the the County Personnel Ordinance be amended <br />accordingly to comply with the Age Discrimination and Employment Act passed in <br />April, 1978: <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the County Personnel <br />Ordinance be amended to reflect the following retire- <br />ment policy, effective January 1st, 1979: <br />All personnel shall automatically retire on <br />the last day of the fiscal year in which the employee <br />reaches age seventy (70) unless the Board of Comm- <br />issioners grants a one (1) year extension. The Board <br />of Commissioners may grant extensions of employment <br />until the employee reaches age seventy-five (75). Such <br />extensions shall be based upon the recommendation of <br />the appointing authority and upon findings of a medical <br />examiner designated by the Board of Commissioners. <br />Retirement shall be mandatory for all employees sub- <br />ject to the provisions of this article upon the last day of <br />the fiscal year in which the employee reaches age <br />seventy-five (75). <br />Commissioner Jack Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a <br />vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Chairman Harmon brought up the discussion of the appointment of a <br />Community Advisory Committee for Nursing Homes. The Chairman reported that <br />Mr. Frank Tibbitt had reported that the industry had recommended as two nominees, <br />Mrs. Cathy Bridges and Reverend Gerald Bridges. The Council on Aging had sugg- <br />ested for consideration, Mrs. Ophelia Palmer, Mrs. Margaret Ascough, Dr. Mary <br />Margaret McLeod and Mrs. Kay Duty. The matter was discussed and Commissioner <br />Gordon A. Wicker moved that consideration of this matter be deferred until the next <br />regular meeting of the Board. Commissioner Nielsen seconded the motion and upon <br />a vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Elwin Buchanan, Grants Administrator, appeared before the <br />Board and reviewed several matters pertaining to the Community Development <br />Program. Mr. Buchanan reported lthat the Community Development Council had <br />obtained three quotations for demotion of a house constructed of cement blocks <br />and cement flooring and four framed dwellings and the quotations were as follows: <br />G. B. Dycus Landscaping <br />Kiker Construction <br />Edi-Sons, Inc. <br />$3,375.00 <br />$3,250.00 <br />$1,500.00 <br />
