Wooten Corporation, Sanford <br />1,158,621.55 <br />Triangle Grading & Paving, Burlington <br />1,322,269.50 <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />SPECIAL CALLED MEETING <br />OF THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />McSWAIN EXTENSION EDUCATION & AGRICULTURAL CENTER <br />2420 TRAMWAY ROAD <br />SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330 <br />FEBRUARY 6, 2014 <br />The special called meeting of the Lee County Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, <br />State of North Carolina, convened at 5 p.m., at the McSwain Extension Education & Agricultural Center, <br />2420 Tramway Road, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners present were Amy M. <br />Dalrymple, Charles T. Parks, Robert T. Reives, and Kirk D. Smith. Commissioners Dr. Ricky D. Frazier, <br />Dr. Andre Knecht, and James K. Womack were absent. Staff in attendance included County Manager <br />John Crumpton, Assistant County Manager /Finance Director Lisa Minter, Legal Support Kerry Schmid, <br />and Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee. <br />Chairman Parks called the meeting to order. <br />County Manager John Crumpton stated that bids were received on January 31, 2014 for the <br />Clyde Rhyne Drive roadway extension project at the Lee County Industrial Park. The following four (4) <br />bids were received: <br />Fred Smith Company, Raleigh <br />$1,041,701.00 <br />Sanford Contractors, Inc., Sanford <br />1,176,655.43 <br />S.T. Wooten Corporation, Sanford <br />1,158,621.55 <br />Triangle Grading & Paving, Burlington <br />1,322,269.50 <br />All bids have been reviewed by The Wooten Company and in a letter to the County Manager, it was <br />recommended the bid be awarded to the low bidder, FSC II, LLC d /b /a Fred Smith Company of <br />Raleigh, North Carolina. It was noted the low bidder is properly licensed to perform the work based on <br />the license information received from the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors' web site and is <br />prequalified with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to perform the type work specified in <br />the project. Fred Smith Company is a qualified and responsible contractor. Mr. Crumpton stated the bid <br />is also within the budget parameters of the project. If approved, the award will be contingent upon <br />concurrence of award by the US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration <br />(EDA). Funds for the project are included in the capital project for this contract. After discussion, <br />Commissioner Reives moved to award the Clyde Rhyne Drive roadway extension paving contract to <br />the low bidder, FSC II, LLC d /b /a Fred Smith Company of Raleigh, North Carolina, in the amount of <br />$1,041,701.00 contingent upon the concurrence of the award by the US Department of Commerce <br />Economic Development Administration.
