5 - '**' - <br />Central Carolina Works: <br />Educating for Economic Development <br />LCI <br />CENTRAL <br />CAROLINA <br />COMMUNITY <br />COLLEGE <br />The QpporUmft: High School Dual Enrollment <br />The North Carolina Career and College Promise (CCP), a collaborative project of the state's K -12 <br />schools, community colleges, and universities, permits high school students to accrue college <br />credit from tuition free community college courses that count simultaneously toward the high <br />school diploma. Recent research has demonstrated compellingly that these types of dual <br />enrollment programs increase by as much as twofold students' likelihood of enrollment in and <br />completion of post - secondary educational credentials. <br />Through the cost free North Carolina Career and College Promise, Central Carolina Community <br />College can equip the members of the tri -county workforce with career- and skills- enhancing <br />certificates, diplomas, and degrees <br />The Challenge: Increased Awareness and Participation <br />In Chatham, Harnett, and Lee counties, the current rate of participation in Career and College <br />Promise coursework stands at just 5%. In partnership with high school administrators and <br />faculty, CCCC must make concerted efforts to increase students' and families' awareness of dual <br />enrollment courses and the college and career opportunities that they create. <br />Ultimately, we aim to ensure that 100°x6 of high school students in the tri -county area graduate <br />with some amount of tuition free college credit that aligns with their individual interests and <br />goals. <br />The Model: Individualized Advising in Schools <br />Academic and Career Advisors, placed in each county high school, constitute the lynchpin of <br />this project. Advisors will work with students, parents, faculty, and administrators to <br />encourage enrollment in Central Carolina Community College coursework - most of it offered <br />directly on students' high school campuses - on a dual enrollment basis. In addition, Advisors <br />will give students individualized guidance regarding how their earned college credits can <br />articulate with the full range of curricular and career /technical offerings at two- and four -year <br />colleges. To supplement the Advisors' work, Interactive Advising Technologies will be <br />developed to give students personalized, on- demand information about dual enrollment and <br />post - graduation opportunities. <br />The Partners: A Community Effort <br />This project has been developed by a consortium of CCCC administrators, local business and <br />industry leaders, and school system officials from each of the three participating counties. <br />Funding for the project will adopt the same collaborative framework, with contributions by <br />Central Carolina Community College, individual private donors, and multiple public and private <br />institutions. <br />All donations will be managed by the Central Carolina Community College Foundation, an independent non - profit organization whose staff <br />and board work to steward funds in support of College operations and programming. Donations accepted by the Foundation in support of <br />Central Carolina Works will be dedicated ezcha*ely toward direct program costs, such as Career and College Advisors'salaries and benefits <br />and students' books and materials. <br />
