David Prevatte
REQUEST The Sheriff's Office is requesting to make improvements to the
schools communication radio system by purchasing two Telex systems to be stationed at Deep
River School and Greenwood School.
SUMMARY The Lee County Sheriff's Office is requesting to purchase two Telex
systems to be placed at Deep River School and Greenwood School. This system will allow the
hand held radio signal to be broadcasted back to the Sheriff's Office with the support of the IP
network. This is the best ideal system used by other school campuses to allow the radio signal to
be transmitted from the confines of a school building. The total cost per school is $4,080. The
project will be performed by our radio vendor Fleet Connect in conjunction with the county's IT
department and Lee County Schools IT department. This project will also tie into the
Communication Improvement Project with Emergency Management that is budgeted for
2013/2014.
BUDGET IMPACT The Lee County Sheriff's Office will use drug asset forfeiture funds
to pay for this project. As of 6/31013, the balance in the drug fund was $118, 502.11. Since June
30, 2013, the Board has appropriated $69,300 for other equipment purchases leaving $49,202.11
unappropriated. The fund has taken in $8,920 this year. The cost of the two systems totals
$8,120.
ATTACHMENT(S) Telex Radio Dispatch information sheets and quotes for the service.
PUBLIC HEARING No
PRIOR BOARD ACTION N/A
RECOMMENDATION Approve request to purchase two Telex IP radio systems to be
installed at Greenwood and Deep River Schools as presented.
