B K: 00026 PG <br />LEE <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION <br />REGARDING NORTH CAROLINA VETERANS MEMORIAL <br />LOCATED IN BROADWAY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina is home to some of the nation's greatest military bases; and <br />WHEREAS, Broadway, North Carolina, is home to The North Carolina Veterans Memorial, a <br />non - profit corporation with 501C tax - exempt status that is a statewide memorial honoring <br />veterans from across the state and was constructed with private funding to honor our veterans; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the black polished granite panel includes names of generations of North Carolina <br />veterans as seen on the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C.; and <br />WHEREAS, the memorial in Broadway is a place where thousands of veterans and their <br />families have come to read names on the walls, walk the lawns, and sit in the gardens; and <br />WHEREAS, numerous weddings, special family events, and Fourth of July celebrations have <br />been held on site; and <br />WHEREAS, Memorial Day and Veterans Day events are held annually in an appropriate <br />setting that is dedicated to those who are being remembered; and <br />WHEREAS, the memorial was endorsed by members of the American Legion Department of <br />North Carolina and the North Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Director of the Division of <br />Veterans Affairs and former Governors; and <br />WHEREAS, The Board of Directors includes members of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled <br />American Veterans and the American Legion, a member of the state house, executive <br />secretary of Fort Bragg's Commanding General and immediate past commander of the state <br />Veterans of Foreign Wars; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Directors to add needed rest room facilities, a <br />changing room (for wedding events), and an indoor observation room at the memorial; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Directors to make The North Carolina Veterans <br />Memorial a place where generations can come and see the names of those who have given to <br />their country and recognize those who have served. <br />
