BK - 00026 PG LEE COUNTY Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow SPECIAL MEETING OF THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 106 HILLCREST DRIVE SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330 OCTOBER 14, 2013 The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 6 p.m., in the Gordon Wicker Community Conference Room, First Floor, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners present were Amy M. Dalrymple, Dr. Ricky D. Frazier, Dr. Andre Knecht, Charles T. Parks, Kirk D. Smith, and James K. Womack. Commissioner Robert T. Reives was absent. Staff in attendance included County Manager John Crumpton, Assistant County Manager /Finance Director Lisa Minter, Law Clerk Kerry Schmid, DSS Director Brenda Potts, and Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee. Chairman Parks called the meeting to order. Commissioner Womack delivered the invocation; The pledge of allegiance was recited. The purpose of the special meeting was to discuss the Lee County Strategic Plan that was presented to Commissioners at their September 16, 2013 meeting by Mr. Dan Parks from the NC State University Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC) and Mr. Ted Abernathy from Southern Growth Policies Board. Mr. Parks and Mr. Abernathy were contracted by Lee County to develop a strategic action plan for economic growth. After several public forums and community input, the following six goals were presented for Lee County: (1) Leadership (provide clear economic leadership), (2) The Lee County Story (tell the Lee County story better), (3) Product Development (improve the Lee County product), (4) Economic Development Transaction /Structure (reinvent economic development delivery), (5) Targeted Growth & Economic Diversification (promote diversified economic growth), and (6) Continuous Measurement (evaluate, select, and apply clear metrics to gauge success).
