BK - 00026 PG <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />OF THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />106 HILLCREST DRIVE <br />SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330 <br />OCTOBER 14, 2013 <br />The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of <br />North Carolina, convened at 6 p.m., in the Gordon Wicker Community Conference Room, <br />First Floor, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on <br />said date. Commissioners present were Amy M. Dalrymple, Dr. Ricky D. Frazier, Dr. Andre <br />Knecht, Charles T. Parks, Kirk D. Smith, and James K. Womack. Commissioner Robert T. <br />Reives was absent. Staff in attendance included County Manager John Crumpton, Assistant <br />County Manager /Finance Director Lisa Minter, Law Clerk Kerry Schmid, DSS Director Brenda <br />Potts, and Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee. <br />Chairman Parks called the meeting to order. <br />Commissioner Womack delivered the invocation; <br />The pledge of allegiance was recited. <br />The purpose of the special meeting was to discuss the Lee County Strategic Plan that <br />was presented to Commissioners at their September 16, 2013 meeting by Mr. Dan Parks from <br />the NC State University Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC) and Mr. <br />Ted Abernathy from Southern Growth Policies Board. Mr. Parks and Mr. Abernathy were <br />contracted by Lee County to develop a strategic action plan for economic growth. After <br />several public forums and community input, the following six goals were presented for Lee <br />County: <br />(1) Leadership (provide clear economic leadership), <br />(2) The Lee County Story (tell the Lee County story better), <br />(3) Product Development (improve the Lee County product), <br />(4) Economic Development Transaction /Structure (reinvent economic <br />development delivery), <br />(5) Targeted Growth & Economic Diversification (promote diversified economic <br />growth), and <br />(6) Continuous Measurement (evaluate, select, and apply clear metrics to <br />gauge success). <br />
