Aye: Dalrymple, Frazier, Knecht, Parks, Reives, Smith, and Womack <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />At this time the Board conducted a public hearing to consider the Rural Operating Assistance <br />Grant Application for Senior Services. Senior Services Director Debbie Davidson outlined the grant <br />application as follows:,,, <br />Elderly and Disabled Transportation Assistance - $64,908 with n ch required. These <br />funds assist clients of Lee County Senior Services, Lee County Indu s, The Center for <br />Independent Living, dialysis patients and other elderly or disabled L , Coun idents with <br />needed transportation services. <br />Employment Funds - $16,205 with no match required. These funds assist ment <br />of Social Services Work First clients, Workforce Developm �ograms or other ci ens in <br />need of employment transportation. <br />Rural General Public - $88,976 — minimum ma —10 re charged to passengers. <br />These funds will be used to transport the general pub i / va ransit needs on a space <br />available and location basis. <br />Grant application is for a total of $170,089.00 <br />Chairman Parks opened the public hearing that had been adverti d for this date and time. <br />The following spoke in favor of the g <br />Sidney Morgan, COLTS Tra <br />inator — in support of the application <br />No one spoke in opposition to the grant app <br />Chairman Parks clo��ublic hearing. <br />Mr. Dan Parks " e N' Caroline's Business and Technology Extension Service and Mr. <br />Ted Abernathy from the S icies Board presented information they had collected over <br />several months on a Strateg tiatives Plan for Lee County. After the presentation, Commissioners <br />shared various opinions of the 'x goals were listed in the strategic plan which are (1) provide <br />clear econo dership, (2) tell Lee County story better, (3) improve the Lee County product, (4) <br />reinvent elopment livery, (5) promote diversified economic growth, and (6) evaluate, <br />select d apply cle etrics to gauge success. No action was taken. <br />Susan Co in, Director of the Lee County Cooperative Extension thanked Commissioners <br />for their ance a support of the recent Lee County "Young Commissioners" program. The two - <br />week youth rs program was made up of twelve 7th — 10th graders from Lee County. During the <br />two -week peri rticipants gained leadership skills through hands -on activities and field visits. Ms. <br />Condlin stated a youth developed a greater awareness and understanding of local government and <br />relevant issues facing their community and has decided to meet monthly to continue looking at issues <br />facing the County. Commissioner Smith also shared his appreciation to the participants and to <br />Cooperative Extension and all departments and individuals that contributed to the program. Ms. <br />Condlin presented Commissioners with a Certificate thanking them for their support. <br />The Board considered a budget proposal for the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program now <br />administered by the Sheriff's Department.
